Initially planned in Rotterdam in July 2020 and postponed due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 9th edition of the World Recreational Fishing Conference will finally take place in a digital format on 28 and 30 June. Hosted by the Royal Dutch Angling Association ‘Sportvisserij Nederland’ (EAA Netherlands) in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, the Wageningen University and Radboud University Nijmegen, the conference will offer a wide space for networking, exchanges and discussion about the current and future challenges of the recreational fishing sector.

Having at heart the will to stay connected despite the impossibility to host the event physically in Rotterdam this year again, the organisers have decided to host an online event that will be free of charge. Usually gathering fisheries scientists, (aquatic)ecologists, sociologists, fisheries policymakers, students on these fields and angling associations, the conference is a very important moment for the recreational fishing community at large to meet up, hear about the most recent scientific findings, discuss policy and governance and exchange in the corridors with colleagues from all over the world. This edition will be no exception: the event will take place through the platform of Let’s Get Digital, offering a lobby, 3 large rooms for the presentations, a network carrousel and the possibility for participants to meet in breakout rooms.

This edition of the conference will focus on the following contemporary and forward-looking themes:
  • Interaction with other stakeholders
  • Environmental changes
  • Societal relevance and acceptance of recreational fishing
  • Changes in recreational fishing sector
  • Stock / resource management

The European Anglers Alliance is one of the partners of the Conference. Fred Bloot, EAA President and Deputy Director of Sportvisserij Nederland shared his enthusiasm about this conference and invites all interested stakeholders to join this event: “If you want to know more and be prepared for the future, this is the place to be on 28 & 30 June 2021. Make sure to sign up and hook up to the conference online!”.
