Now that summer is finally here, a great way to enjoy this season is to go fishing and discover more about the water ecosystems. Sportfiskarna, EAA member from Sweden, offers the best solution for this with its Summer Fishing School for girls (age range: 6-18) as they are traditionally underrepresented in the angling world.

Summer camps offer great opportunities for fun times & angling education

Sportfiskarna – EAA member from Sweden – is hosting several summer camps in August for girls who are interested in learning how to go angling and experience outdoor feelings during their spare time. The camps are all located in the Swedish Gothenburg and Varberg regions and cover both fresh (lake Delsjön) and saltwater fishing.

The summer fishing school teaches not only practical fishing skills but also marine biology and outdoor cooking. Additionally, the program gives a basic introduction to water safety, fishing gear maintenance, water conservation, and species identification. With these summer camps, Sportfiskarna focuses on outdoor activities and fishing, where girls are usually underrepresented. The main objective is to inspire them to try angling as a wonderful way to enjoy nature.

Participants are guided by popular fishing personalities such as Linnea Lönn, Thea Gäfvert and Hafsah Muric, who will share their tips and experiences, especially in species fishing and angling. The Girl Fishing School is run in collaboration with Studiefrämjandet an independent study association providing (adult) education activities throughout Sweden mainly focusing on nature, animals, environment and culture.

Early results

Some initial outcomes from the previous camps are ready to be shared after the first few weeks of Summer!
Several fine tench have been landed during the first four weeks of the summer fishing school in Region West. In the Gothenburg and Varberg regions, many nice fish were caught including a bream of 3 kilos, burbot of 2.4kg and pike of five kilos, add a number of perch over the kilo and some other goodies.
