ICCAT members agreed to increase the quota in the eastern Atlantic and the Mediterranean by about 20 percent a year from 2015 through 2017.

For 2015, it will be raised from the current 13,400 tons to 16,142 tons.

The gradual increases were supported by the European Union, which was previously reluctant to approve larger catches, as well as Morocco, Japan and other members with large fishing industries.
